Description
François Pompon
Pompon spent the majority of his life working for other artists. From 1890 to 1895 he was Rodin’s ‘chef d’atelier’ and he subsequently assisted René de Saint-Marceaux until 1916. He also continued to look for his own style which was heavily influenced by the rise of Japonism and his admiration for Egyptian art. His big breakthrough, the exhibiting of his famous polar bear, came when he was already 67.
